Ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day give us more years of life

Researchers from the Imperial College London School of Public Health, published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, point out that if the rule of ten portions is followed en masse by a large part of the world's population, then 7.8 million premature deaths will be avoided each year internationally.

The study (meta-analysis of 95 published studies involving a total of two million people) shows that even a small amount of two to three servings of fruits and vegetables is good for health.

The risk of cancer is especially reduced by green vegetables (eg spinach) and yellow or orange (eg yellow peppers and carrots), as well as rapeseed or cruciferous (cauliflower, broccoli, etc.). Apples, pears, salads, lettuce and turnips reduce the cardiovascular risk of heart attacks and strokes.

According to the study, the consumption of 200 grams of fruits and vegetables per day reduces cardiovascular risk by 13% and his cancer by 4% on average, while Consumption of 800 grams reduces by 28% the risk for heart and by 13% for cancer. The risk of premature death is reduced by 15% and 31% respectively.
